Strawberry French Toast

  • 1/2 cup sliced Strawberries
  • 5 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1 loaf French Bread, sliced 3/4 inches thick
  • 10 eggs
  • 1/4 cup half and half
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • Strawberry Sauce

  • 1 qt. cleaned and hulled strawberries
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 T water
  • 2 T orange liquor or orange juice
  • For the strawberry sauce, cook all ingredients for 5 minutes in a pan over medium heat than allow the sauce to cool.

    The night before...

  • Combine berries with the cream cheese.
  • Spread the berry and cream cheese mixture on 1 side of a bread slice and top with another slice of bread (forming a kind of sandwich.) Repeat this step with all the bread slices and the reaming filling.
  • Place in a shallow casserole dish.
  • Mix the eggs, half and half and vanilla and pour over arranged slices and roll the slices over to coat both sides well with the egg mixture.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate over night.
  • Next Morning...

  • Spray 2 cookie sheets with non -stick cooking spray.
  • Bake at 375 Degrees for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Serve with warm strawberry sauce and maple syrup.
  • * I like to dust the top with powdered sugar and add sliced fresh strawberries or mixed berries with fresh mint for garnish.
